[ The word ‘number’ can act both as a noun and a verb.
Example:

[ বাক্যে যখন আকাঙ্ক্ষা প্রকাশ পায় (যে আকাঙ্ক্ষা অবাস্তব অথবা অতীতে ঘটে যাওয়ায় এখন আর পূরণ করা সম্ভব নয়), তখন verb এর past form হয় এবং verb, be verb হলে plural form হয়।

[ look forward to (আশায় থাকা), with a view to (কিছু করার উদ্দেশ্যে), get / be used to (কোন কিছুতে অভ্যস্ত হওয়া) – এই phrase গুলোর পর verb+ing বসে।
Example:
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
He works hard with a view to achieving success.
I am used to taking tea.
He got used to driving in the rain. ]
5. Rishan walks as if he (be) lame.
Ans: were
[ As if / as though থাকলে পরবর্তী clause, past indefinite tense হয় এবং verb সাধারণত plural form হয়। We use as if and as though to talk about an imaginary situation or a situation that may not be true. As if is more common than as though.
Example:
** He is very proud. He talks like the President of America.
➔ He talks as if / as though he were the President of America.
** He plays football. He poses like Maradona.
➔ He poses as if / as though he were Maradona.
** She beats her brother. She beats him like his teacher.
➔ She beats her brother as if / as though she were his teacher. ]

Ans: Do you watch television often?
[ To make a statement interrogative we place an auxiliary verb before the subject. In case of Present Indefinite Tense ‘do‘ or ‘does‘ accompanies the subject sitting before it, while ‘did‘ does the job during Past Indefinite Tense.]
2. At least one of the students ____ full marks every time.
Ans: gets
[ ‘one of the‘ এর পরের noun plural হয় কিন্তু verb singular হয়। Always, every time, regularly ইত্যাদি থাকলে বাক্যটি Present Indefinite Tense – এ হয়। ]
3. The Padma is a very big river. (Make it exclamatory)
Ans: What a big river the Padma river is!
[ বাক্যে যদি article ‘a’ থাকে বা adj এর পর noun থাকে (here, river after big) তাহলে exclamatory sentence টি What দিয়ে শুরু করতে হয়। যদি article ‘a’ বা adj এর পর noun না থাকে তাহলে exclamatory sentence টি How দিয়ে শুরু করতে হয়।
Example:
The Padma is very big.
➔ How big the Padma is!
4. The boy went to school and he played there. (Correct form)
Ans: The boy went to school and played there.
[ compound sentence এর ক্ষেত্রে প্রথম ও দ্বিতীয় অংশে একই subject থাকলে দ্বিতীয় অংশে subject লিখতে হয় না। ]
5. Translate into English- “সাকিব ঐচ্ছিক বিসয় হিসেবে গণিতের পরিবর্তে জীববিজ্ঞান নিলো।”
Ans: Sakib took biology as optional subject instead of mathematics.
[Or, Instead of mathematics Sakib took biology as optional subject.]

throw up, pinch, graduate
Ans: throw up = Feeling sick and vomiting (Example: I leaned over and threw up again), to give up something, especially one’s job (Example: Why has he thrown up a promising career in politics?)
Pinch = to grip something between finger and thumb (Example: She pinched his cheek)
graduate = to complete an academic course successfully. (Example: She graduated from Glasgow University)
2. Make sentence with the following idioms: apple of eye, apple of discord
Ans:
apple of eye: He was really the apple of his mother’s eye.
(If you say that someone is the apple of your eye, you mean that they are very important to you and you are extremely fond of them.)
apple of discord: The piece of land was the apple of discord between two brothers.
(Apple of discord means the cause of dispute, misunderstanding, trouble, discord or jealousy. Example: The right to host the next Olympic games has become an apple of discord between the two countries.) ]
3. This could have worked if I ____ been more cautious.
Ans: had
[ According to the rules of ‘3rd conditional’, if the principle clause includes would have, could have, might have then the other clause will be in Past Perfect Tense.]

Ans: since
[ Here, the examiner examined the basic exercise of Present Perfect Continuous Tense. In this tense, ‘since’ or ‘from’ is used when there is a indication of a “beginning of time”. On the other hand, ‘for’ is used when there is a mention of “duration of time”. ]
5. Use the appropriate article:
I saw ___ one-eyed man when I was walking on the road.

[ A/An articles are not used based on spellings, they are used based on the (sound) pronunciation of the word before which it is to be used. The word one begins with a vowel (o). However, we don’t use the indefinite article ‘an’ before it. This is because it begins with the consonant pronunciation wa. Hence, we use the indefinite article ‘a’ before it. That is why, a one-eyed is the correct answer. ]
